Confluence is one of the only primary treatment programs exclusively-designed and built from the ground up for the young adult experience. Working alongside young adults is all we do and all Confluence has ever done. This decision informs our work and program. What does that mean? It boils down to participant and program collaboration, respect for young adult choices and voices, and the recognition that young adult experience is unique from other age brackets and life development stages. Therefore treatment, care, supports and programming must be different to meet these needs. The same is true for family systems, parenting a young adult is fundamentally different to parenting an adolescent and our work with families reflects this.
Confluence is accredited by The Joint Commission, the leading healthcare accreditation organization. Accreditation underscores Confluence commitments and dedication to exceptional quality, oversight and transparency, and continuous improvement in patient care. Achieving this accreditation requires Confluence to undergo thorough evaluations, ensuring the program meets rigorous standards that enhance safety and treatment effectiveness. The Joint Commission accreditation process promotes a culture of excellence, where care protocols are consistently updated based on the latest evidence-based practices, and staff receive ongoing training to provide the highest level of care. Ultimately, Joint Commission accreditation reassures participants and their families that Confluence is committed to maintaining superior care, fostering trust and confidence in the mental health services provided.
Confluence is a state-licensed mental health treatment provider and receives regular oversight from the Vermont Agency of Human Services. Everything from the temperature of tap water, to medical records, to staff background checks is monitored by our licensing agency. Confluence intentionally sought licensure when opening to meet and exceed standards of care. Additionally, licensure provides important outside oversight, recognition of the healthcare we are providing and for health insurance coverage purposes
Confluence is owner-operated with its founders and directors on-site daily. Confluence is not part of a larger corporate structure and does not have outside investors influencing decision making. As a small organization, decisions are made onsite and from a participant-centered lens without compromising on quality of care. This is the life’s work of the program owners, who collectively have decades of experience working in mental health care.

Confluence has always believed we can do more than is the standard of care. Our model is built to give participants and their families all they need and more to make profound and meaningful change in their lives. And our focus is on how to get there. The decision has informed our care which provides team-based professional services, inclusive of doctors, psychologists, therapists, social workers, medical staff, direct care staff and operational team members. 

Our people make our program successful. Confluence values, cares and provides for our team members. Our goal is to hire the best and to train and develop the very best staff teams possible. Our intention and attention is to create a work environment supportive of our staff, helping them realize their professional and personal goals. In doing so, we recognize our people can then do their best work with stronger intrinsic motivation, a deeper sense of meaning, and a greater level of engagement, which improves outcomes for participants. Confluence is committed to the professional development of all its staff and we seek to support this goal through compensation, training and creating a work environment enabling our people to excel.

Confluence is a growth organization, meaning we look for our own avenues of learning, improvement and development, much as our participants do. Sometimes our greatest teachers are our participants and their families. Confluence owner’s and staff regularly seek and complete trainings and continued education. Confluence is member to professional associations and regularly engages with colleagues and programs in support of best practices development and continued improvement.

Confluence is intentionally small. Our emphasis is on quality over quantity. We work with one group of up to 12 participants at any given time. Typical group size averages 9-10 participants. A small group allows all our entire team to be involved with the care of each participant and enables comprehensive teaming. Our size reflects our commitment to quality assurance and unparalleled stakeholder service.
